There was an interesting article “Budget Ills Worry Hospitality Industry” in the Express News yesterday. Do legistlators have any concept of the Hospitality Industry and its impact on the local economy, especially in San Antonio?! Interesting fact…”San Antonio will have the highest percent of supply (hotel rooms) added in the nation for 2010!” and we’re still building! What will it mean for the local economy if the “Powers that Be” decide to balance their budget on the back of the Hospitality Industry? Our city already has a very high tax that is added to hotel rooms and rental cars. I’m sure that I’m not the only meeting planner that takes those factors into consideration when evaluating proposals from cities. It can definitely add a hefty chunk of change onto a meeting or convention’s overall budget!
